American soprano, MARTHA THATCHER (she/her), is a Los Angeles-based multi-style vocalist, musical director, arranger, composer, and pedagogue. Known for her solo, chamber music, directorial collaborations and performances with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Malibu Friends of Music, the Montgomery Arts House for Music & Architecture, the Washington State Capitol Rotunda Concert Series, Kingsman Shakespeare Festival, Backroom Shakespeare, Write Act Repertory, Omaha Conservatory of Music, Oregon Fringe Festival, Pasadena's Artes Vocales, the Morgan Wixson Theatre, famed Hearst Castle, and many others, Ms. Thatcher has toured extensively throughout the continental United States to critical and audience acclaim. As a part of the global streaming series, "Montgomery Arts House Presents..." Ms. Thatcher's performances have been heard by literally thousands of audience members around the world. Her 2021 performance of American composer Maria Newman's, "Six Canzonettas," was nominated by Eastman School of Music's String Department Chair, Nicholas Goluses, for the Pulitzer Prize in Music, as well as for the International Grawemeyer Award in Music.
A two-time Honoree as an Irene Ryan Scholar from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., Ms. Thatcher is a named Leon Mulling Scholar (Orgeon Center for the Arts), Susan Carter Scholar (Oregon Center for the Arts,) and "Young Artist of the Year" (Malibu Music Awards). Ms. Thatcher earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts summa cum laude from the Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University.
As composer, arranger, and performer for film and stage alike, Ms. Thatcher's original songs have been featured in film and television, including the eleven-episode urban fantasy web series: "Burn the Witch: The Series," where she also stars as Ainsley Wildes, the fan-favorite psychic - Streaming now on YouTube.
As a long-time Resident Artist at the Montgomery Arts House for Music & Architecture, Ms. Thatcher continues to enjoy a close collaboration with Composer-in-Residence Maria Newman, for whom she has recorded upwards of 20 new works.
